Schedule an appointmentAt Oak Mountain, we want your dentures to look great, feel comfortable, and last as long as possible. Whether you have full dentures or partials, daily home care is essential to protect your smile and keep your mouth healthy.
Every night, remove your dentures before bed. Use a soft-bristled denture brush and a non-abrasive denture cleanser (not regular toothpaste) to gently brush the surface of your appliance. Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals. Avoid using hot water for cleaning, which can warp the plastic and ruin the fit of your dentures.
Never sleep in your dentures — your gums need time to “air out” and prevent microbial growth. Overnight storage depends on the denture material (see FAQ below).
Even with full dentures, your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth need attention. Use a soft toothbrush to clean these areas daily. This reduces bacteria, prevents irritation, and keeps your breath fresh.
If you wear partial dentures, be sure to brush and floss your natural teeth thoroughly, especially around the clasps, to prevent decay and gum disease.
Snap-in dentures connect to dental implants using small metal buttons called locators. These buttons help the denture stay securely in place, but they must be kept clean to avoid bacteria buildup and wear.
Each night, remove your snap-in denture and gently clean around the metal locator buttons in the mouth with an extra-soft toothbrush and a CPC-containing rinse such as CloSYS so that the metal remains shiny. Gently rinse and store the denture as normal.
Avoid alcohol-based rinses and harsh chemicals, which can degrade the components.
This depends on the material that the dentures are made of. Our standard Foundation series dentures should be stored in a dry environment after cleaning. Our upgraded Pinnacle series dentures should be stored in a container of room-temperature water. Denture cleaning tablets are optional and can help remove tough stains.
No – most toothpastes are too abrasive and can scratch the surface. For cleaning, use a gentle soap or a product designed specifically for dentures.
The odor is often caused by bacteria left behind. Make sure you’re cleaning your mouth (not just the appliance) every day.
This depends on the patient, but typically, these should be replaced every 8 months or so.
