Schedule an appointmentIf you’ve just had a dental implant, sinus lift, or bone graft procedure, protecting the healing site is crucial for success. These are delicate procedures and require special care at home to ensure your implant integrates with the bone properly.
The overall goal for both extractions and bone grafts is to keep the sutures clean and to keep pressure off of the surgical area.
You may notice a slightly gritty texture or small particles in the mouth during the first few days. This is completely normal, but avoid disturbing the area as the material may take a few days to “settle.”
You may experience sinus pressure, mild congestion, or a slight bloody nose – this is normal.
This depends on many factors, including the location and number of implants, as well as the health of the patient. In some special cases they can be used immediately (like a healthy patient with a full arch bridge), while in others, we must wait at least 6 months prior to loading the implants.
In most cases, the implant is deep in the bone and not visible above the gums, since it’s replacing the root of a tooth. This is intentional so that the healing site is protected until it is ready to be used for your smile!
Pain that is not improving after 3 days, swelling of the gums or cheeks, foul odor, bad taste, or fever. Watch out for bright red/purple tissue or white fluid. Please call us immediately if you think you may have an infection!
